Background of Fenchugonj

Brief Background and History of Fenchugonj ........................................... Situated here is the holy shrine of saint Hazrat Shah Maloom (Rahmatullah) he was one of 360 companion of Saint Hazrat Shah Jalal (Rahmatullah), shrine is located about half kilometer south of river kushiara in Rajan pur area, many people come here to pay visit to the dargah(shrine), yearly oros mubarak is observed here in december.

Fenchugonj has good communication with the rest of the country because it has river, road and rail links. During British rule river and rail was popular, then comes road, now there is an A2( Asian Highway) road built through fenchugonj, connecting Sylhet- Dhaka and other parts of the country.

Established here is a market place on the bank of river kushiara with tuesday and saturday being the main trading days, people from surrounding 10/15 miles comes to the market to trade and shop. Now there is many local market which sits everyday.

About Fenchugonj

Fenchugonj is an Upazila (borough) of Sylhet district on the north eastern corner of Bangladesh. Fenchugonj is located at Geographical location24.7083° N 91.9403° E . The Upazila consists of three union which are Fenchugonj, Maijgaon and Gilachora which has 13368 units of house hold and total area of 114.48 km². In 1907 Fenchugonj was established as thana and in 1980 it was turned into an Upazila. Fenchugonj Upazila is performing 5.6% above the Bangladesh national average in education and this Upazila has Power Plant, Urea Fertilizer factory (first fertilizer factory planted in Asia), tea gardens, rubber gardens, gas field and many more....
